The story of RED MONKEY CB in Cheyenne, Wyoming

In 1968 my father, Don Johnson, started a small CB radio shop out of his home in the very small town of Tipton, California. After a few years he was able to open a retail store and shop—Red Monkey --in town which quickly grew and employed many family members. In 1980, the fast-growing business moved to the Big City of Fresno, California where it thrived for many years. I started working with my father after school and on weekends, learning every part of the business—from cleaning, to repairs, to installations. By 1986, I was running the store and its 10 employees. Red Monkey Communications changed with the times, branching into other products and services, but always focused on CB radios as its mainstay.
          In 1997 my father retired and my wife, Karen, and I took over the business. We grew the business for many years, and then...the Internet Happened. Like most family stores we took a hit, since it was too easy to order so many things online. But the internet couldn't tune-up and install the equipment , plus we soon found the quality of the products was not the same! While we had our loyal customers who continued to supported us, we knew it was time for a change.
          In June of 2018 we loaded up our 5,000 square foot warehouse, three grown children, my in-laws, four dogs, sold both our and our in-laws beautiful homes, and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming: where the mighty Interstates 25 and 80 intersect! After a few months getting settled, we re-opened our business which is now RED MONKEY CB, a 24-foot mobile showroom, repair, and installation trailer and service center.
         We have not forgotten our loyal clients in California, servicing them via shipments and advice. With this new website, we look forward to servicing our future customers in the United States, and beyond. Keep communicating!
